I'll be honest. I'm not a poetry guy. I find most of it overblown and inaccessible. But I love Joel Landmine. So much so, in fact, that it makes me rethink my anti-poetry stance. Like the best of Charles Simic and the Beats--and yes, ol' Hank--Landmine speaks the language of the streets (or as Billy Wordsworth used to say, "the language really used by men"). He aims for accessibility, to strike straight to the heart--and he hits his mark every time. I remember Campbell McGrath explaining an epiphany about his poetry once, how you didn't need to write about fields of maze and starlight, that you could describe buying a burrito from 7-11 and still make it poetic. That's what Joel does. He takes us through the day in, day out, the mundane and perfunctory, and he renders it something more; he finds a way to transform the ordinary into the profound. And he's funny as hell. Whether it's a relationship gone sour and infidelity, or screwed-up B & E's, Joel Landmine makes me think what it's really like to be human, especially when the breaks in life don't go your way. He tells these tales in a crisp, effervescent style, and he gets it. Joel Landmine is a rare talent.

Joel has lived it and has survived to tell us about it. He tells it with bite and truth balanced with the right amount of humor. He may have gotten good at life. He has something to share with us all
Joel Landmine writes short poems, sometimes the title is longer than the poem. Make no mistake these poems are not lazy or simplistic they are exactly as they should be, dynamite each little poem lives with you forever.
I have never particularly cared for poetry but this came highly recommended so I decided to read it. Wow. It is a deeply moving and profound piece of work. Searingly personal, almost painful at times, but always captivating and written with an artistry that is almost breathtaking. An exciting new voice and I look forward to more.
